Independent Candidate for Galway West by-election, Sheila Garrity has outlined her priorities for the constituency during an appearance on the breakfast radio show, signalling the start of an active community-focused campaign across the region.
Garrity, who previously managed the successful presidential campaign of Catherine Connolly in Galway, told listeners she is running as an independent voice to put local communities at the centre of national decision-making. She said her experience working on grassroots campaigns has shown her the importance of listening directly to people and translating their concerns into real political action.
During the interview, Garrity emphasised housing, public services and community development as key issues for Galway West, saying the constituency needs strong, independent representation free from party constraints.
As part of her campaign, Garrity announced a series of community meetings across Galway, inviting residents to come along, ask questions and share their priorities:
- February 12 – St. Joseph's Community Centre, Shantallah, 7pm
- February 19 – Oughterard Community Centre, 7pm
- February 26 – Ballybane Community Centre, 7pm
She said the meetings are designed to be open and inclusive, giving people a direct say in shaping her platform ahead of the by-election.
