Janet Kehaelly, representative of the Galway County Council Integration Team, and Adebisi Oladipo, a dedicated member of the Africa Day Planning Committee together, gave listeners an inspiring preview of what to expect at this year’s Africa Day Galway County celebration, today on our Breakfast Show.
The Africa Day even taking place on Saturday 17th May from 2 PM to 5 PM at the Palace Grounds in Tuam, promises an unforgettable afternoon of multicultural music, dance, food, and community celebration. With free admission and an open invitation to people of all backgrounds, the day is set to highlight the vibrant African cultures that enrich Galway County.
Janet Kehaelly emphasised the importance of inclusion and togetherness:
“Africa Day is not just for the African community—it’s for everyone. It’s a celebration of diversity, unity, and what it means to be part of a welcoming Galway.”
Planning Committee member Adebisi Oladipo shared the excitement behind the scenes; he also spoke in rich Yoruba language to reach our multilingual audience:
“We’ve been working hard to make this day joyful and educational. From drumming performances to delicious food tastings and kids' activities, there’s something for the whole family. Dress gorgeously, and show up.”
This year’s event also promotes sustainability with a plastic-free message—attendees are encouraged to bring their own water bottles.
Whether you're African or an ally, a newcomer or a long-time resident, Africa Day Galway County welcomes YOU.
