Dance Triple Bill — a powerful night of contemporary dance coming to Galway’s Black Box Theatre

Galway’s Black Box Theatre is set to host a night of striking movement and powerful storytelling as Dance Triple Bill arrives for a special one-night-only performance. Featuring three of Ireland’s most dynamic contemporary dance artists — Magdalena Hylak, Fearghus Ó Conchúir, and Mufutau Yusuf — the evening promises a compelling blend of physical expression, cultural commentary, and artistic collaboration.

For Magdalena Hylak, the show is not just a performance, but a personal journey. “I picked dancing when I need a movement activity for health reasons.” she explains. “What drew me in was how dance lets you say things words can’t always express.” Hylak’s journey took her from community dance projects to becoming an established choreographer in Ireland, with a style marked by emotional honesty and deep physicality.

Dance Triple Bill showcases individual works from each artist, unified by a shared commitment to pushing the boundaries of movement. Hylak, who performed in Galway in 2024 under Arts residency, is excited to bring her latest piece to the city again.

Joining her are Fearghus Ó Conchúir, known for dance works that explore identity and queerness, and Mufutau Yusuf, whose practice blends traditional Nigerian influences with contemporary forms. “What’s unique here is that you’re not seeing a single vision,” Hylak notes. “You’re witnessing three very different artists, each with their own background and way of telling a story — yet we’re all sharing the same stage.”
