A unique spiritual music gathering blending Celtic tradition with the ancient practice of Kirtan is taking place in Galway this Sunday, inviting people from all backgrounds to come together through song, rhythm, and shared connection. Location is LivVintage Studio. £ Cross Street Galway; starting from 2PM.
Speaking on the Breakfast Show GOCOM Radio, Eileen Bray of Celtic Kirtan shared the inspiration behind the monthly event known as “Come-Unity – Ceol agus Croí Kirtan.” The gathering brings together elements of sacred chanting and Celtic musical heritage, creating a welcoming and meditative space where participants can connect through music and community.
Kirtan, a traditional form of devotional chanting originating from India, is often performed in a call-and-response style, where a lead singer chants a phrase and participants respond together. According to Bray, the experience is less about performance and more about collective participation, reflection, and unity.
The Galway gathering invites both experienced participants and complete newcomers to join. No musical background is required, and attendees are encouraged simply to come with an open mind and heart. The event typically features live instruments, chanting, and moments of stillness, offering a peaceful environment where music becomes a shared language.
Bray explained that the aim of the monthly gathering is to foster community connection, bringing people together in a welcoming atmosphere that celebrates music, spirituality, and cultural exchange.
As Galway continues to grow as a vibrant intercultural city, initiatives like Celtic Kirtan reflect the many ways communities are creating spaces for connection, wellbeing, and shared cultural expression.
